Back From Alpha

After a very long, tumultuous trip back home-- I was supposed to leave Pittsburgh at 12:50PM and get back to Ithaca at 3:40-ish, but that flight was canceled and I had to take another one to Newark at 3:00, and one from Newark to Ithaca that kept getting delayed, so I finally got back in at 1:30AM-- I am here. I miss the Alphans! GAH! I've also realized that my Stuff was not as worthy of missing while I was away as I thought, as there is too much of it and I think I need to clean my room.

I can however say that, after four hundred and fifty pages (and still not done), The Innocent Mage by Karen Miller (Kingmaker, Kingbreaker series) is full of awesome. I just wish that someone had edited the damn thing. Quotation marks instead of apostrophes abound, as do misspellings, and I'm not sure whether the wrong prefixes of words are on purpose or a mistake. Despite this, though, still made of goodness. Anyone who sees this post: read the book. She has a good feel for tone in prose with regard for character, and considering how long it is and the fact that it's part of a series (well, of two), you'll be amused for a good long time.

At Confluence

Hello all/anybody at all!

If you are at Confluence Science Fiction Convention in Pittsburgh PA, look me up!

Alpha Writers' Workshop has officially ended and we are all at Confluence, doing stuff and spending too much money in the dealers' room, as a whole. I, personally, am eagerly awaiting my plane ride home, then home, because I miss food that wasn't made in a cafeteria and the ability to actually eat any of it, since there is so little not-meat filled food.

Also, I and most of the other Alphans have a cold. I am displeased and my nose is running. Argh.

The Write Prediction (sorry, bad pun)

Thank the gods, the semester is almost OVER! Just a couple more days... I predict writing, and hopefully lots of it. If I don't post something in a couple of days, hit me. The Wereyorkies need a short sequel and I need to poke at androids and fairies again (not in the same story, thank you very much... though that would be pretty friggin' awesome).

In some slightly related news, I'm going to be at Alpha Sci Fi/Fantasy/Horror writing workshop in Pittsburgh this July and then Confluence after! Only twenty people get to go... *feels privileged and slightly gloaty* Meanwhile, apartment hunting and worrying whether my financial aid is even remotely going to cover my living expenses. Debt, here I come: the sad thing is, you welcome me with open arms.
